How Wall Street cashed in on the American Dream

This is the first in a series investigating the impact on Indianapolis homeowners and renters of corporations that buy up large numbers of homes and convert them into rentals.

Indy Star reporters Ko Lyn Cheang and Claire Rafford did this two part story series about how investors are making home ownership nearly impossible and driving the rent costs beyond affordability. Based on data from Attom and this recent report from the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana, Cheang and Rafford show how out-of-state investment companies are buying properties at an alarming rate both in Indianapolis and across the state.
