'I'm tired of this' | Hoosiers fighting for better tenant laws

Another story of Indianapolis renters who are forced to live in inhabitable conditions because their landlords will not make repairs.

“‘We see devastating concerns when it comes to habitability," said Amy Nelson of Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana. ‘In Indiana, there is no law that allows tenants to withhold their rent or make needed repairs and then deduct it from the rent.”

"Even when it's the middle of the winter and their pipes are frozen, or they don't have heat. They withhold rent and they could be served with an eviction and be evicted for that," said Nelson.”

Call your legislators and tell them to support SB202 and HB1148, allowing tenants to escrow rent for repairs.
