Indiana's Affordable Housing Crisis: Status and Strategies

  • Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation 6501 North Meridian Street Indianapolis, IN, 46260 United States (map)

Amy Nelson, the executive director of the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana, says that rising rents and scarce inventory are hitting renters in Marion County, Indiana especially hard, resulting in many tenants struggling to make ends meet. Record-low vacancy rates and a lack of affordable housing supply make the search for low-cost rental housing a near-impossible task. Historically underserved neighborhoods of color, as well as households of color, female-headed households, and families with children bear the brunt of the impact of these trends.

Come learn from keynote speaker Amy Nelson more detail on the impact of these difficult times for those with the greatest rent burdens. The event will begin with the testimony of a former guest of Family Promise's Apartment Shelter Program on what it was like to be evicted, displaced, and all while parenting and working.

This event is designed especially for volunteers and supporters of Family Promise of Greater Indianapolis (a family homeless shelter), but the public is welcome to attend.

The event will also be livestreamed for free at https://ihcindy.org/streaming/.
